Samuel Dale (1741 - 1804); A Life and Estate in Union County tells the story of Samuel Dale, a Scots-Irish immigrant who served as a captain during the Revolutionary War and an assemblyman and senator in the early Pennsylvania government. A description of Dale's library informs us about his interests; an essay on slavery provides insight into slaveholding by Dale
and others in Union County. The chapter on the architecture of the Dale-Engle-Walker house helps us appreciate the original structure and the changes made over the years. The Historical Society has restored the house and property, offering guided tours and programs on site.
